COVID-19 vaccine developed in Edmonton; Alberta is now advancing to the human trials. The government of Canada has granted Entos Pharmaceuticals, led by Dr. John Lewis, 4.2 million dollars to proceed with the project.
The vaccine is DNA-based. It works by utilizing specific vectors that carry the DNA into the cells. When the cell accepts the DNA as its own, antibodies against the virus will be produced. Each cell will become its own individual vaccine machine.
The trials will begin in phase 1, which is expected to start in Halifax this August. If trials were successful, the vaccine is expected to be released by the end of 2020.
