Primary Inspection Kiosks

Mina Amer

If you visit one of Canada’s busiest airports, you can notice newly installed machines known as primary inspection kiosks. The Canada Border Services Agency, in collaboration with the airport authorities, introduced these kiosks in 2017 and will continue installing them throughout 2019. The purpose of this step is to make the work more efficient and reduce the waiting times. Most travellers arriving in Canada by air can use the kiosks. The process goes as follows:

1. Scanning the travel document

2. Taking a photo

3. Verifying the fingerprints (if applicable)

4. Answering questions

5. Taking the receipt to the border services officer

The kiosks are available at the following airports:

• Terminal 3 of Toronto Pearson International Airport – YYZ

• Calgary International Airport – YYC

• Vancouver International Airport – YVR

• Ottawa International Airport – YOW

• Winnipeg Richardson International Airport – YWG

• Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport – YTZ

• Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport – YQB

• Edmonton International Airport – YEG

• Montreal-Trudeau International Airport – YUL

• Halifax Stanfield International Airport – YHZ
